How to Call Spain from the UK in 2026: +34 Dialling Guide

Written by Fonable Editorial Team

To call an ordinary Spanish phone number from the UK, dial +34 followed by all nine digits of the Spanish number. From a UK line that requires an international exit code, use 00 34 instead. Keep the first digit of the Spanish number.

Fonable is a browser-native, pay-as-you-go international calling service. For a supported Spanish landline or mobile, you can use a browser and calling credits instead of buying an international mobile-plan add-on. Your internet connection and microphone must work for the call.

How do +34 and 00 34 fit the Spanish number?

Spain's ordinary national telephone numbers have nine digits. Unlike the French domestic-zero conversion, calling Spain does not require deleting the first digit of an ordinary Spanish number.

These are incomplete patterns for illustration. Replace X with the actual digits supplied by your contact; do not try to call the patterns.

What number should you use for a Spanish hotel or company?

Use the property's or company's own contact page, not a number copied from an old directory. A booking platform may publish its own support line rather than the hotel's front desk. Check the department and location before paying for an international call.

Ask for a regular landline or mobile number if the contact page shows only a domestic service number. Spain's regulator CNMC manages geographic, mobile, special-tariff and short-number categories under country code 34. Their presence in the numbering plan does not make every category reachable from every UK provider.

How to make the call from your browser

For a reservation change, keep the booking name, reference and intended date ready. If you need an English-speaking member of staff, state that request when someone answers.

  1. 1. Check the published number. Confirm that the number belongs to the recipient you intend to reach. Copy the full nine-digit ordinary national number or its existing +34 version.
  2. 2. Use one international prefix. Enter +34 followed by the number in the browser dialer. Do not add 00 before +34, a second 34 or an invented leading zero.
  3. 3. Review the rate and credits. Look up Spain and the relevant number type on the rates page. Check the displayed price for the destination before you start; special prefixes need separate coverage confirmation.
  4. 4. Enable your audio. Sign in, give the browser microphone permission and check the selected microphone and speaker. Use a stable internet connection for the conversation.
  5. 5. Enter the extension when prompted. Call the main number first. A hotel room number or staff extension belongs in the later keypad prompt, rather than in the initial +34 phone number.

How much does a UK-to-Spain call cost?

The cost depends on the service, destination number type and any plan you use. A UK mobile plan's domestic allowance does not by itself confirm an international call to Spain is included. Check the provider's Spain tariff or international add-on before using the normal phone dialer.

For browser calling, review the destination rate and available credit. Compare expected call duration with the rate, including any published billing increments or fees. This guide does not use a fixed per-minute quote because an old headline price may not cover the particular number you need.

How do you choose a useful calling time?

Check the local time for the recipient's specific location and the date. Mainland Spain and the Canary Islands can have different local times, so selecting only a country name in a calendar can create confusion. Confirm the office's own opening hours and holiday notices.

When arranging a call, write the location and local time in the invitation. For example, agree on the hotel reception's local time rather than saying 'UK lunchtime'. Allow enough time for an automated menu or a transfer before reception or an office closes.

Why might a correctly written Spanish number fail?

Check the digit count and remove accidental duplicate prefixes. If you copied a number from a message, make sure it was a phone number rather than a booking reference. Numbers written with a separate extension must be dialled in two stages.

If the format is correct, check the line's opening hours and whether your service supports that number category. A domestic-only contact route or special-tariff number may need another method. Ask the business for a regular international contact number or use its official contact form instead of repeating unsuccessful attempts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I remove a zero when calling Spain from the UK?

Keep all nine digits of an ordinary Spanish national number after +34. Do not apply another country's rule for dropping a domestic leading zero. If the contact details already show +34, use that country code once and check the remaining digits against the recipient's original number.

What is the difference between +34 and 0034?

Both introduce Spain's country code in the relevant calling format. +34 is the usual international representation for a browser dialer or a mobile that accepts plus-format numbers. 0034 combines the UK international exit code 00 with 34. Follow either version with the full Spanish national number.

Can I call a Spanish landline without installing an app?

A browser phone service such as Fonable can call supported ordinary Spanish landlines over an internet connection. You need to sign in, allow microphone access and have calling credits. Check the destination rate and number category first; the recipient answers their regular phone without installing Fonable.
